The People and the Place
Behind Stem & Vine
At Stem & Vine, plants, science, and cultural expression intertwine to create a space where our community can grow and thrive. It took a former engineer, a 1904 building, and a lot of Baltimore to get here.
A Science Story Told in Plants
Stem & Vine lives inside the Browns Arcade on North Charles Street, a downtown Baltimore landmark with two wings, a central hallway, and a garden courtyard open to the sky. The building went up after the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 and sits on the National Historic Registry.
Founder Quincy Goldsmith is a former metallurgical engineer and a trustee of the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and the STEM in our name is literal. He built a place where botanicals, craftsmanship, and storytelling sit at the center of everything we do. Artistry, empowerment, and a love for community run underneath all of it. The aim has stayed the same: cultivating the art of living well, one plant and one pour at a time.
The old arcade gives all of it room. The front of the shop holds the Garden and the Botany Bar, where our wine and spirits bar in downtown Baltimore champions Black-owned and women-owned makers, many based in Baltimore and the surrounding region. Behind it, the courtyard and greenhouse anchor our rentable event spaces in downtown Baltimore, where up to 120 guests can gather under the same roof that has watched Charles Street for generations.
Four Regions, One Shop
Every plant in our Baltimore plant shop is organized by the region it comes from: Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Australia. Where a plant is from tells you how to care for it, and whose story it carries.
Africa
Arid-country growers that hold their water, love bright light, and reward a patient hand.
Asia
Tropical and highland species that want humidity, filtered light, and steady warmth.
The Americas
Rainforest climbers and desert survivors, two care philosophies from one hemisphere.
Australia
Coastal and outback natives built for tough conditions and bold, sculptural growth.
The plants and the pours trace back to the same communities.
We tell that story every day.

The Hands Behind the House
A small team keeps Stem & Vine growing, from the shop floor to the bar to the events calendar.
Quincy Goldsmith
Quincy founded Stem & Vine to put community, culture, and wellness under one roof. Hospitality, for him, is connection: thoughtfully planned events, a good cocktail, and a room that feels like home by the time you leave it.
Kendrea Goldsmith
Creativity, warmth, and a knack for the small touches are what Kendrea adds to the house. She cares about the moments guests remember, makes sure everyone feels welcomed, and keeps the Stem & Vine brand growing along the way.
Tiffany Moody
Tiffany is Events Director for Stem & Vine and the founder of TEOS Event Design, with years of events across Baltimore and beyond behind her, including Baltimore's Diner en Blanc. Her eye for detail and love of intentional design are why our events land polished and welcoming at the same time.
Allison Chavis
Allison is the creative back-end brain of the operation: the website, the inquiries, the social feeds, and the day-to-day that keeps it all running smoothly. She founded Noted. Baltimore VA and has worked with major Baltimore brands, so organization and creative strategy come standard in everything she touches.
Dominique Da'Shay
Dominique is our Beverage Director for off-site events and the owner of Stylish Bartenders, the hospitality staffing company she founded in 2021. She runs bar staffing and beverage service for Stem & Vine events, leading a team of experienced bartenders through custom cocktail experiences, bartender training, and interactive mixology classes.
